  Q & A
most commonly asked questions.

What the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Although these are really interchangeable terms, generally Counselling is more offering insights and support to finding ways to help deal with problems and challenges in the present day. Psychotherapy is often more longer term where the past is explored to help understand how it may be impacting within current day issues.

Do you only work with neurotypical clients ?

I work with both neurotypical and neurodivergent clients, including Autism and Adhd. We can discuss your needs and how I can accommodate them prior to starting therapy. These can be discussed within the 30 minute free consultation, if you prefer. Please see more within the contact me page.

What are your Fees?

£60 per 50 minute session, I also offer a low cost option which can be discussed to see if this meets your needs.

Sessions are usually weekly sessions, although other frequencies are considered.

You may choose a set number of sessions or leave them open-ended, whatever is your preference, or,  we can discuss this within my free 30 minute telephone or Online consultation.

What can I expect from counselling?

In counselling, you can expect a safe and non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. I will actively listen, provide support, and help you gain insight into your emotions and behaviours. The aim is to empower you to make positive changes, develop coping strategies, and improve your overall well-being.

Can I swear during sessions?

This is a place to be your true self. If you use a lot of swear words in your everyday description, then that's you. If you don't like using them, then that's you too. I am about accepting you as the unique individual you are, whether you prefer to swear or prefer not to.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

Deciding to seek counselling can be a personal choice, and it is important to feel comfortable and ready to engage in the therapeutic process. If you are experiencing emotional distress, struggling with relationships, or facing challenging life circumstances, counselling can provide valuable support. It may be helpful to discuss your concerns so we can assess your needs and guide you in making an informed decision.

What if I don't feel comfortable or don't connect with my Counsellor?

Establishing a strong therapeutic relationship is crucial for effective counselling. If you don't feel comfortable or don't connect with me, it is important to communicate this openly. I will understand and respect your decision and may suggest alternative counsellors or approaches that may better suit your needs. Building trust and feeling understood is vital to the success of counselling, so finding the right therapist is essential.

How long does counselling take?

The duration of counselling varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people may find relief and achieve their desired outcomes in a few sessions, while others may require longer-term therapy. I will work collaboratively with you to determine the appropriate duration and frequency of sessions based on your progress and evolving needs.

Is everything I share in counselling confidential?

Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of counselling. I am bound by professional ethics and legal obligations to maintain your privacy and protect the information you share. However, there are exceptions to confidentiality if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. I will discuss these exceptions and the limits of confidentiality with you during our initial sessions.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

That's no problem as long as adequate notice is given. Please note, I do operate a 48hr cancellation policy, where late cancellations  may  incur full charge.

What is a certified Online Counsellor?

This means I have been accredited for completing 80hrs of training specifically for understanding and working with you through Online and Telephone mediums. Recognising the challenges involved, understanding  different platforms, maintaining confidentiality and how I can still offer you my best service within these mediums, without compromise.
