  About Me
Maria Bessant M.B.A.C.P.

How I became a Counsellor.

In my previous career I worked within a large and often fast paced multicultural retail company, so I  understand work stress and the pressures to achieve targets.

Throughout this career, I worked at different sites across London, Surrey and Hampshire and the best part of my role was the variety of people I met from all different walks of life. This role gave me the opportunity to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, teaching me the importance of cultural sensitivity and the need to approach everything with an open mind.

Being curious, I found listening became a key skill in understanding what makes someone tick, what are their drives, their passions and how can I support them?  I built many long lasting relationship as this career provided me with valuable skills in communication, problem-solving, and understanding the complexities of working in a multicultural environment.

After leaving this job I joined the YMCA , taking on a fulfilling volunteer role of mentoring young Adults, and that mentoring led me to explore Counselling ....
... and my whole world changed,  I had found my passion!
And, some years later,  I am still here, still curious, still learning and still fascinated in what makes people tick and how I can support them.

My Supervision

One of the ways I ensure my professional growth is through my regular supervision. It provides a supportive and reflective space where I can discuss and explore my work with an experienced and qualified supervisor. This allows me to gain insights, receive feedback, and ensure that I am providing you the best possible care whilst also maintaining your confidentiality.

Supervision also helps me maintain ethical standards and accountability in my practice. It allows me to reflect on any challenges or dilemmas that may arise during our work and seek guidance on how to navigate them in an ethical and responsible manner.

I value my supervision process as it not only enhances my skills but also contributes to my personal and professional development. It is an integral part of my commitment to providing high-quality counselling services and ensuring the well-being of you, my client.
